people while working towards rebuilding and rehabilitation
of their
villages over the long term. Salt Street Foundation, Inc. is a Maryland

Our History
The Salt Street Foundation was founded in March 2005 by a group
of
volunteers, directed by Jamer Chamberlain, M.D. upon his
return from a
tsunami related relief work in India. Salt Street
is the local name for a very
small village he visited called
Poovanthoppu. The name comes from the way
the local people make their
living, hard labor harvesting salt for less than a dollar a day.
Through the assistance of the Catholic Health Association of India
(CHAI), the Salt Street Foundation has committed to helping this
village return
to self sufficiency as its initial program. This three
year project is focused on helping Poovanthoppu rebuild the basic
necessities and infrastructure that we sometimes take for granted.
